Benefits of Hydrotherapy for Pets
Hydrotherapy offers a wide range of benefits for pets, including:
- Fitness & General Exercise: A low-impact way for pets to stay active, improving cardiovascular health and overall fitness.
- Muscle Building & Show Preparation: Hydrotherapy can help build muscle strength, making it an excellent choice for dogs preparing for shows or athletic competitions.
- Rehabilitation After Injury or Surgery: Especially beneficial after orthopaedic surgeries like cruciate ligament repair, hydrotherapy aids in a faster recovery by promoting movement without stressing the joints.
- Arthritis Relief & Mobility Improvement: Hydrotherapy is particularly effective for pets suffering from arthritis. The buoyancy of water reduces weight on the joints, easing pain and improving mobility.
- Puppy Water Safety: Hydrotherapy sessions can be used to help puppies become comfortable and confident around water, setting them up for a lifetime of water safety.
- Weight Loss: For pets struggling with obesity, hydrotherapy provides a fun, engaging way to burn calories and shed excess weight in a low-impact environment.
- Fun & Enrichment: In addition to its therapeutic benefits, hydrotherapy is also a fun activity for pets, helping to enrich their lives and improve their mental well-being.

Why Use a Qualified Hydrotherapist?
When choosing a hydrotherapist for your pet, it’s important to ensure they are qualified and well-trained to provide the best care possible. Qualified hydrotherapists are registered with professional bodies, such as the Australian Canine Rehabilitation Association (ACRA), ensuring they have the necessary skills and expertise to help your pet. Here’s why choosing a qualified and registered hydrotherapist matters:
- Assurance of Professional Training: Registered hydrotherapists are trained in specialised techniques and are required to adhere to a professional Code of Practice and Ethics. This ensures they follow the highest standards in pet care and safety.
- Verified Credentials: Every qualified hydrotherapist is listed on the ACRA website, where you can verify their registration status, qualifications, and specific areas of expertise. This offers peace of mind that you’re entrusting your pet to a professional.
- Rigorous Training Standards: A registered hydrotherapist has completed ACRA’s rigorous training requirements—the highest standards in the UK. They must also complete at least 20 hours of Continued Professional Development (CPD) training annually to maintain their registration. This ensures they are up to date with the latest techniques and developments in canine rehabilitation.
- Ethical & Professional Conduct: Qualified hydrotherapists are required to adhere to the Guide to Professional Conduct for Registered Canine Hydrotherapists. This code ensures they practice with integrity and care, always putting your pet’s well-being first.
- Insurance for Peace of Mind: Registered hydrotherapists are required to hold public liability and professional indemnity insurance, ensuring that both you and your pet are protected during the treatment process.
Peace of Mind for Pet Owners
By choosing a hydrotherapist who is registered with ACRA, you can rest assured that your pet is in the hands of a skilled professional committed to providing high-quality care. Whether your pet is undergoing rehabilitation, fitness training, or simply enjoying the benefits of water therapy, choosing a qualified hydrotherapist ensures they receive the safest, most effective treatment available.

Hydrotherapy Massage for Pets
Hydrotherapy massage combines the therapeutic benefits of water with gentle massage techniques to promote relaxation, relieve pain, and improve circulation. The buoyancy of the water supports your pet’s body, reducing strain on joints and muscles, while the massage helps alleviate muscle tension, enhance flexibility, and promote healing after injury or surgery. This treatment is particularly beneficial for pets with arthritis, muscle stiffness, or post-operative recovery needs.
Hydrotherapy massage sessions are customised to suit your pet’s individual health and rehabilitation goals.
