Acupuncture for Pets
Acupuncture for Pets
Acupuncture is a time-honoured therapy, originating from traditional Chinese Medicine, where very fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body to relieve pain, promote healing, and restore balance. While traditionally used in Chinese medicine, acupuncture is also embraced in Western veterinary practice, particularly for its analgesic (pain-relieving) properties.
Acupuncture is highly effective in treating chronic pain, such as arthritis, and other conditions including wound healing, nausea, stroke recovery, and boosting immune function. Many pets tolerate acupuncture well, with most pets relaxing or even snoozing during sessions. The needles used are much finer than those used in injections, causing minimal discomfort.
At Noah’s Crossing Vet, acupuncture is frequently incorporated into a broader pain management and rehabilitation plan, often alongside treatments like hydrotherapy for conditions such as arthritis or post-surgical recovery. The initial acupuncture treatment is typically administered once a week for four weeks to assess how well your pet responds, with subsequent treatments scheduled as needed, typically on a monthly or quarterly basis for long-term pain management.
Our veterinarians carefully monitor your pet’s response to treatment to ensure the best outcomes, and can adjust the therapy as needed. Many pets experience significant improvements in mobility, pain levels, and overall well-being with acupuncture as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
